The mark of great books is that they make the reader feel smarter for reading them. The same is true of great presentations: tying big-picture trends to current topics like technology, economics, philosophy, productivity, and humanity makes the audience feel smarter without getting caught in the weeds.

Contrast is also good. Organizers want balance: if the discussion at the conference focuses on big-picture issues (such as healthcare), you could present a session on how this will affect an individual (a grandmother in Florida). On the other hand, if it’s focusing on specifics (changes to the tax code for real estate), you could look at societal impacts (how tax changes have affected standards of living over the ages).
